Bob Glenister founded KAYAKING 4 KEMO KIDS in september 1996 after his 4yr old daughter was diagnosed with Acute Lymphatic Leukaemia.
Bob organised the paddle with major sponsors Pittarak Sea Kayaks to paddle 1000km solo from Sydney to Surfers Paradise in March 1998 to raise funds for cancer reasearch and Camp Quality.
This was Bobs way of coming to terms with his daughters cancer.
That first paddle for Bob was an eye opener for everyone, Bob included: paddling at night into Newcastle, huge swell from a late season cyclone, and the occasional visit by a shark.
The courage, determination and strength to do this paddle, was just truly inspiring.
Bob's infectious enthusiasm for the cause encouraged others to join him on other Kayaking 4 Kemo Kids paddles. Sydney to Brisbane. The Brisbane to Sydney arriving on Australia Day. Then a cycle team became involved as the land based fundraiser as Bob and fellow paddlers battled their way up the coast in the ocean.
Bob help raise 100's of thousand of dollars for cancer research over the 10yrs they did the paddle,
helping cancer research and Camp Quality, after the first paddle alone enough money was raised to establish the Tumour Bank- Australian first and worldwide resource.
Bob was a down to earth and had a positive influence over everyone who met him, just truly inspirational, and his legacy will live on forever.
He will be sadly missed.
Bob is survived by his lovely wife and 2 daughters.
Bob worked as a Paramedic in Brisbane, Donations to Australian National Paramedic Support Foundation would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
May you rest in peace, you will forever hold a special place in our hearts
Bob larger than life. |
